PERMA® Mirrors
Lightweight First Surface Mirrors for High-Precision Optical Performance
Performance Enhanced Replacements for Mylar Applications®
Displays & Optical Technologies, Inc. has developed and refined its PERMA® process for lightweight first surface mirrors, providing an advanced solution for customers requiring high-precision optical mirror systems. This technology was specifically engineered to replace traditional Mylar reflectors with a more accurate, durable, and high-performance alternative.
As projection and display technologies continue to advance, the demand for highly accurate optical mirrors has increased. PERMA® mirror systems are designed to maximize the performance of modern projection systems, simulation displays, and visual training environments by delivering superior flatness, reflectivity, and image quality.
Since 2008, DOTI has supplied precision glass first surface mirrors that offer a longer lifespan, greater rigidity, and higher reflectivity compared to conventional reflector materials. These optical mirror solutions are ideal for applications requiring consistent performance and minimal distortion.
DOTI’s proprietary mirror backing, mounting, and support system creates a lightweight, stable mirror assembly that is significantly flatter—both locally and globally—than other lightweight mirror technologies. This ensures optimal performance in high-resolution display and optical systems.
Typical weight for standard PERMA® mirror assemblies is approximately 3.4 pounds per square foot, utilizing a 1/8” glass first surface mirror with a total assembly thickness of approximately 1.06 inches. This combination of lightweight design, structural stability, and optical precision makes PERMA® an ideal solution for large-scale optical and projection applications.

Ex-Pres PERMA® Mirrors
DOTI offers an advanced ExPres PERMA® mirror solution designed for applications requiring extreme flatness and ultra-smooth optical surfaces. These high-precision first surface mirrors are engineered for high-resolution, high-brightness projection systems and advanced display environments where image quality is critical.
Unlike standard float glass, which contains inherent micro-ripples from the manufacturing process, ExPres PERMA® mirrors are optically ground and precision polished to eliminate surface imperfections. This process produces a true optical-quality mirror surface, delivering superior image clarity, uniformity, and optical performance.
Our ExPres PERMA® mirrors achieve exceptional surface flatness, with deviations of only a fraction of a wavelength per inch, compared to conventional float glass, which typically exhibits 3–6 wavelengths of deviation. In addition, these mirrors provide ultra-smooth surface finishes previously available only in specialized precision optical components.
As modern projection systems and display technologies continue to increase in brightness, resolution, and scale, the need for high-performance optical mirrors becomes increasingly critical. ExPres PERMA® mirrors enable users to fully leverage the capabilities of high-end projectors, large-format displays, and advanced visualization systems.
By integrating ExPres PERMA® mirrors into their systems, customers can achieve maximum image fidelity, improved brightness uniformity, and enhanced overall display performance.
